Ajax Cape Town football star Khama Billiat believes he has improved since last season but still has ambitions to follow Thulani Serero’s lead.

Asked for an assessment of his progress after Ajax had beaten Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in one week, the Zimbabwean international said:

“It was a very good week for Ajax, but not a good one personally as I didn’t have a good game against Chiefs. But I went back to training and worked on my finishing.

“Overall I believe I’ve improved from the player I was last season and I’m happy to have scored against Sundowns.”

This is where Billiat raised the level of his own expectations, saying: “My personal target is to follow in Thulani Serero’s footsteps and go overseas.”

But he realises a lot of his own ambition is linked to his current team. “I’m also very happy to have a teammate like Terror (Fanteni). The goals he scores for Ajax really makes it easier for me. It takes off the pressure on me because he scores for the team to win games,” the 21-year-old says.

Meanwhile, another attacking player that has improved this season is Lebogang Manyama who has helped plug the gaps left by last season’s mainstay Serero.

“I’m happy for Lebogang Manyama because he is doing well for us and he seems to be on top of his game. Let me not forget the Angolan striker (Antonio Carrera) – he looks good at training and his experience will be vital. Once he understands everything he will be a great signing for us,” Billiat concludes.
