Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman Twine Phiri on Friday beamed with pride as his executive sealed yet another sponsorship deal.

Following are some of the comments and pictures from the launch.

Twine Phiri PSL chairman: “I might not be a likeable character to all the football people, but this is the fruit of hard work and the spirit of working together. I want to thank all the stakeholders who have been supporting my executive.

I also want to thank the sponsors for believing and having confidence in the current executive. This is good for the sponsor, good for football and also good for football supporters.”

Simeon Jamanda Motor Action chief of protocol: “It gives confidence to other corporate bodies and we wish them to stay with us for the next 10 years to lead the pace.

It’s most appreciative because a team plays just four games and gets more than $100 000. After winning the BancABC we want to win this new baby to make up for the centless league trophy we won last season. This will be payback for hard work and consistency. We want to take the Cup Kings tag which is currently vacant.”

Wellington Mpandare Gunners manager: “Gunners will take this one. We are actually looking at the total package. It will be a tough competition because of the rewards, but we have confidence in ourselves.”

Mgcini Mpofu Highlanders’ Harare representative: “I’m 100% sure Mbada Diamond Cup is going to Bulawayo. We have qualified into all the cup finals that have been played this season and we believe this is our time to shine. We have already started to calculate our debts. We already have $75 000 less debts.”

Taurai Mangwiro Monoz coach: “It’s a welcome competition. We are going there fairing our chances. Motor Action has proved to be a difficult side for us. Twice they have beaten us this year, but we can take a lot of encouragement in the fact that on all the matches they beat us by a single goal. My players have learnt, we will try to do our best.”

Maxwell Mironga Caps United chief executive officer: “We have won more than 80% cup games when we meet Dynamos. I hope we will continue with our good form.”

Nyika Chifamba Dynamos secretary-general: “I want to thank the PSL for securing this big sponsorship deal. Now we have a sponsor who foot all the costs so the players concentrate on playing football. The winning prize of $75 000 is a lot of money if you look where we are coming from and will go a long way in sorting out financial problems affecting clubs.”

Mbada Diamond Cup first round fixtures: Motor Action v Monoz (Sakubva), FC Platinum v Black Mambas (Gibbor), Dynamos v Caps United (NSS), Highlanders v Zimbabwe Saints (Colliery), Chicken Inn v Kiglon (Mucheke), Hwange v Shooting Stars (BF), Gunners v Masvingo United (Nyamhunga), Blue Ribbon v Shabanie (Ascot)
