Gospel songstress Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave makes an appearance at the Ladies in Jazz Festival on Sunday night.

The festival, which started last night, ends on Saturday at Jazz 105.

Organiser of the festival Josh Hozheri confirmed Zvakavapano-Mashavave’s participation at the festival and said they had been negotiating for some time, but they had finally come to an agreement.

“We have been negotiating with her and now we have come to terms so she will perform on Sunday.

“We invited Fungisai so that she can be part of the festival and collaborate with fellow female artists like Dudu Manhenga and many others,” said Hozheri.

Asked whether the move would not incite a backlash from jazz lovers who questioned having non-jazz artists at a jazz festival, Hozheri said there was nothing wrong with his line-up.

“Go anywhere in the world, it is the trend that at a jazz festival there are non-jazz artistes performing. “Yes, people will always say it is about making profits, but on this particular issue profit comes second.

“Sunday ladies will be entering the venue for free and if it was for profit then they would have been made to pay,” said Hozheri. The closing show starts at 5pm and the gospel diva will play as the second act.
