Zimbabwe Women’s Football secretary-general Samukeliso Silengane has hailed the organisers of the Girls Under-20 Copa Coca-Cola Cup for sponsoring the tournament which kicks off at Gifford High School on Friday.

The participating schools are expected in Bulawayo today for the competition which ends on Sunday.

Silengane on Thursday told NewsDay Sport that they were pleased to host the tournament in the City of Kings and Queens.

“We are very happy that we are hosting such a big competition in Bulawayo and we feel very honoured,” she said.

Silengane said the tournament is the opportune time for the girls to show that they can play the sport well and to show their full potential.

“Coca-Cola has realised that the girls are also capable of playing football like boys, that is why they have decided to sponsor this tournament. We will make sure that all goes well in the tournament as we do not want the sponsors to be disappointed,” she said.

Hermann Gmeiner, Hwange and Mufakose are in Group A while Montrose, Ngomeni and Selonga make up Group B.

Group C consists of Chidembo, Inkomo and Rufaro while Group D has Sikhulile, Rukweza and Rutanhire.

The winners of the competition will pocket $1 500 and a trophy. Runners up in the competition will be awarded $1 200 and a trophy while the third-placed team will get $1 000 and trophy as well.

The fourth-placed team will pocket get $500 while the eight teams will each get $300 for participating. Individual prize monies on offer will include $100 each to go to the top goalscorer and the best goalkeeper.

The player of the tournament, the best coach will pocket $150 each while the team that wins the fair play award gets $300.
