Servcor receives ISO certification

Players in the hospitality industry should adopt and implement quality standards in order to enhance the country’s competitiveness.

Speaking at the certification ceremony of Servcor Catering Services, Standard Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) director general Eve Gadzikwa said trade in services such as catering, banking, insurance and tourism had become important and represented 70% of the world economy.

Servcor Catering Services last week received an ISO 9001:2008 certification award from SAZ.
“Worldwide the hospitality industry is a fast-growing sector which has brought along a lot of debate on the positive and negative effects that this service trade could have,” said Gadzikwa.

Gadzikwa said standards were the baseline discipline for competitiveness in any sector. The hospitality industry was now considered a powerful engine for growth and development creation through foreign currency and income generation, employment creation and leisure provision.

She indicated demand for quality worldwide was now part of everyday life as customers expect a higher standard of products and services than they did several years ago.

Servcor chairperson Chris Gomba said the certification was indicative of the desire by the company to benchmark management standards with the best in the world and be internationally recognised.

“The road to ISO certification has been long, not easy and has at times been disappointing, but the results are rewarding,” said Gomba.

He said Servcor’s quest to get certified began in 2009 following a strategic decision by management to adopt a quality management system.
