An 18-year –old woman from Kariangwe area in Binga was on Tuesday slapped with a 3-month jail term after she gave birth to a premature baby and buried it alone in a gulley without her parents’ knowledge.

Pricilla Siaziama pleaded guilty to charges of birth concealment when she appeared before Binga magistrate Stephen Ndlovu. The magistrate convicted and sentenced her to an effective 3 months in jail.

Siaziama gave birth to a premature baby on August 26 this year at around 3pm while she was alone in Montsene area in Binga.

It is the state case that she was seven months pregnant when she gave birth to a live premature child.

Without informing her parents, Siaziama took the baby to the bush where she buried it in a gulley.

The matter came to light when her mother noticed she was no longer showing signs of and confronted her. She then told her mother that she gave birth to a premature baby and buried it in the bush.
