A Zimbabwean man employed as a college principal in Francistown, Botswana, has appeared in court in the neighbouring country facing charges of theft of about P26 000 from his employer.
Jonathan Nganungu (40) pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared before a Francistown magistrate Thebeetsile Mulalu last week.
Mmegi newspaper reported on Friday that the magistrate granted Nganungu bail.
He was remanded to October 6 for continuation of trial.
The magistrate ordered Nganungu to surrender his travel documents to the police and to report to the Francistown Central Police Station once a week.
The state alleged that Nganungu was employed as a principal at the TKM College in Francistown.
On June 22 last year he allegedly stole P26 650 from the institution and converted it to his own use. The employer later discovered the theft and made a report to the police, leading to his arrest.
