The Bulawayo Basketball Association (BBA) league will this weekend hold a pre-season tournament at Bulawayo Club for the Disabled to gauge their strength ahead of the planned launch of the Southern Region Basketball League.

The BBA league season starts on September 24 and plans are underway to form the southern region league that will feature Bulawayo and Midlands teams.

BBA spokesperson Joe Mujuru on Tuesday told NewsDay Sport that preparations for the tournament are at an advanced stage.

“We are having the pre-season tournament on Saturday and Sunday. We will use it as a test to gauge our strengths as we want to start the southern region league. We will also have a meeting so that we see how we can handle the league,” he said.

“We are starting the BBA league season next week. The teams will use the tournament to step up preparations for the league. Midlands teams expected to take part in the tournament are Midlands State University, Unicorns and Steelers from Kwekwe both in the men and women’s sections,” he added.
