Zvidzai Rwodzi, a 30-year-old man from Southerton, Harare, was last week arrested and charged with aggravated indecent assault after he allegedly sodomised a 26-year-old man while threatening to slit his throat with a knife at his bottle store.

Rwodzi was not asked to plead when he appeared before regional magistrate William Bhila and was remanded in custody after being advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The court heard that the complainant (name withheld), who is a dancer, met Rwodzi last Sunday while drinking beer at Southerton shopping centre.

It is alleged the complainant indicated to Rwodzi that he had a group of dancers who were prepared to entertain customers at his bottle store. The two men then entered into a written agreement and proceeded together to Rwodzi’s bottle store. When they arrived, Rwodzi is alleged to have pulled out a knife from his pocket, pointed it at the complainant’s throat and ordered him to remove his trousers. He allegedly had sexual intercourse with the complainant without his consent. While the complainant was allegedly being sexually abused, he pleaded with Rwodzi to allow him to go and buy condoms for protection. After being allowed to go, the complainant is said to have proceeded to Southerton Police Station where he reported the matter, leading to Rwodzi’s arrest.
