The long arm of the law finally caught up with a serial fraudster — Shingirai Mapurazi — who was last week remanded in custody following confirmation of three warrants of arrest by a regional magistrate.

Mapurazi, who is alleged to have conned desperate home seekers in and around Harare, was initially issued with a warrant of arrest on May 11 last year after he failed to attend court to face six counts of fraud.

This was after he had been arrested on allegations of duping home seekers who included Maxwell Mugwai, Lackmore Zvinowanda, Shadreck Tshuma, Paul Mapfumo and Edward Charles Smith through placing advertisements in the local papers in April last year inviting home seekers to contact him.

Through this alleged misrepresentation, he made off with more than $50 000.

Three months after being granted $100 bail, Mapurazi was at it again and this time he allegedly swindled another Harare man — Patson Zvandasara of $27 500 after selling him a Vainona stand belonging to Christian Mwandiyambira.

He was remanded to July 29 for trial but never turned up for trial, prompting the court to issue police with a warrant of his arrest.

In July this year, Mapurazi was again issued with another warrant of arrest after defaulting court on a charge of rape for which he was out on $50 bail.

He was accused of raping a 19-year-old teenager from Mutoko High School after promising to offer her accommodation at his house in Chitungwiza.

Mapurazi allegedly raped the girl after diverting route while on his way to Chitungwiza. He defaulted court on July 19 and was arrested by police last week.
