Prominent evangelist of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM), Phanuel Dzangare, commonly known as Pastor Chiweshe, will be buried at his rural home in Concession this afternoon.

Chiweshe died of kidney failure on Tuesday. Family spokesperson Tinashe Muchemwa confirmed the development at a Harare funeral parlour yesterday afternoon.

AFM president Aspher Madziyire said: “He was a true father and we can’t say we have lost him because if we say that, it means the gospel he preached was in vain. If we were talking about car parts he will be an OG – original. Those who would not follow his teaching can only be regarded as preaching a piracy gospel.”

AFM overseer Pastor Cosam Chiyangwa told mourners: “You do not mourn this kind of person.

You celebrate him. He left to be with the Lord while in prayer. We are proud of him. He is not in this coffin. What we have come to see here is his house. The one who gifted him (God) has taken him back.” Who was Pastor Chiweshe?

  • Chiweshe started his ministerial mission as a Sunday school teacher at AFM and rose through the ranks to become an elder in the ’70s. He became a pastor in 1987 and ministered in the AFM Chitungwiza Assembly for 25 years.
  • He started an evangelistic ministry in 1993 called Anointed Ambassadors for Christ. Under this ministry, Chiweshe managed to do all his popular and intriguing recordings on CDs and DVDs.

  • In 2002, he did missionary work in the United Kingdom and the United States as an itinerary pastor before returning home in 2005.
