Zifa expect $250 000 from Liberia match

Cash-strapped Zifa expects to gross
$250 000 from the crunch Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Liberia on September 4 at the giant National Sports Stadium, a senior official has said.

Football lovers will be expected to fork out $5 for the rest of the ground while the most expensive ticket for the VVIP bay will cost $100.

Zifa board member (finance) Elliot Kasu said the charges were necessitated by the need to generate income for the away match to Cape Verde in October.

“We are expecting to gross something like $250 000 from the game against a budget of $185 000. We have an organisation to run. It is our duty and we have the Cape Verde away match that is coming,” Kasu said.

Kasu was speaking on the sidelines of the Fifa General Secretaries Seminar at a Victoria Falls hotel yesterday.

The board member said the football mother body was not going to relent on the charges for the Liberia match, citing high costs of hosting the game.

“Cape Verde is going to be costly for us so we have to generate money from the Liberia match. We resolved on those charges and the need to have the game at the National Sports Stadium for that reason. The charges have also been derived from the cost element of hosting the Liberia match,” Kasu said.

He said the national football association needed to fork out $30 000 to bring in foreign-based players and take them back to their respective clubs.

In addition, Kasu said the players had to be paid appearance fees, besides other allowances that go with the match.

He also mentioned other service providers that had to be paid who include the city council, the police, the ambulance services and hired cashiers.

Also included in the cost of hosting are is the Liberian delegation that is coming into the country including match officials.

Kasu said whoever thought that the charges for the match were too high was not being considerate and did not have cost management knowledge.

The Zifa board member said $100 000 would be needed for the away Cape Verde match next month.
