A Bulawayo man, Dennis Tsvangirai, appeared in court on Tuesday for allegedly attacking a Central Intelligence Operative (CIO) following a beer drink brawl in QueensPark East the previous Sunday.

Tsvangirai was remanded out of custody on his own cognisance to September when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Abednico Ndebele. Public prosecutor Malvern Nzombe told the court that on August 21 the State’s secret spy agent, Tedious Dzavamwe, was drinking beer at Wise Waters spot in the city.

Tsvangirai was also part of the revellers who were in the bar quenching their thirst.

However, at around 10pm, Tsvangirai allegedly approached Dzavamwe and started assaulting him with fists.

During the assault, Patricia Nkomo and Patson Nlovu and several unidentified patrons joined in the melee.

Dzavamwe flashed his official identification document, but this could not save him as the crowd continued pounding him.

He was only saved from further harm by a vendor who operates outside the drinking spot. A report was made to the police, leading to Tsvangirai’s arrest.
