Harare City Council’s health department was allegedly swindled of $8 250 through a botched module printing deal last year.

This was revealed during last week’s court appearance of Israel Tichivangani Muchineripi (31) of Westlea, on a fraud charge.

It is alleged the council paid for Aids and tuberculosis training modules, but the Muchineripi failed to deliver the consignment.

Muchineripi was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei on Friday last week and was remanded to September 9 on $50 bail.

According to prosecutor Joyce Sithole, Muchineripi allegedly committed the offence sometime in August last year after securing a contract to print training material for the council.

This was after Muchineripi approached Taurai Daka, who is the administration officer in the health department, and allegedly misrepresented that he had the capacity to print the required 1 000 training modules within a month.

After securing the contract, Muchineripi initially charged $7 450 for the job, but later demanded another $800 after indicating to Daka that he had miscalculated the amount required for the job.
