The Zimbabwe Professional Golf Association (ZPGA) has lauded the coming in of the Golden Pilsener Zambezi Tour saying it will improve professionalism and excitement in the golf fraternity in the country.

ZPGA president Akil Yousuf on Wednesday told NewsDay Sport that the future of golf looked bright. “I want to thank them for the astute work they have done so far. While the tour is in its infancy, we are still upbeat and we are certain that things will grow as we go on.

“The transition to the Zambezi Tour has been pretty smooth; we are headed for greater things,” Yousuf said.

Multiple Sunshine Tour winner Tongoona Charamba who is also chairman of the players committee for the Zambezi added his voice saying his establishment was excited with the new venture.

The Golden Pilsener Zambezi Tour was officially launched at Chapman Golf Club on August 11 amid pomp and fanfare.

Delta Beverages, through its premier brand, Golden Pilsener, acquired the naming rights of the tour for the next three years and will sponsor the tour’s flagship event, The Golden Pilsener Harare Open in November.

The Golden Pilsener Zambezi Tour is set to ensure a cohesive and well organised vehicle for professional golf in Zimbabwe.

The tour will also build a platform to effectively feed into the Sunshine Tour and beyond for players and organisers respectively.
