A manager of a private security firm in Chitungwiza has been convicted of pointing a firearm and threatening to shoot the husband of his wife’s friend after the couple offered overnight accommodation to his wife.

A furious Mavuto Chiocha (29) was not deterred even by the presence of police officers nearby and was determined to shoot Robert Nyamayaro. But, police swiftly intervened and saved the situation.

Nyamayaro was sent cowering for cover after Chiocha cocked his pistol, pointed it at him and threatened to blow him up following a heated argument over the issue.

The incident is said to have occurred on August 6, in Seke Chitungwiza, after Chiocha, who resides at Chitungwiza Zimbabwe Republic Police new camp, had a domestic dispute with his wife.

The nature of the domestic dispute was not indicated in court papers.

However, following a heated argument, Chiocha’s wife, whose name was not disclosed in State papers, is said to have sought refuge at the Nyamayaros’ home for the night.

The following day, Chiocha followed his wife and confronted Nyamayaro over the matter.

The two men had a heated argument, resulting in Nyamayaro resolving to report the matter to the police.

When Nyamayaro was just outside Chitungwiza Police Station, Chiocha approached and parked his car close to him.

Chiocha got out of the car and produced his pistol, cocked it and pointed it at Nyamayaro while threatening to blow him up.

Nyamayaro is said to have run for dear life and sought refuge at a nearby clinic.

Police officers who witnessed the unfolding drama rushed to the scene and arrested Nyamayaro on the spot.

Chiocha pleaded guilty when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Silas Chitongo last week, facing a charge of pointing a firearm and another of possessing a firearm without a licence.

He will be sentenced on Tuesday. Henry Muringani appeared for the State.
