Zimbabwean wheelchair tennis ace Nyasha Mharakurwa won the 2011 ITF NEC Men’s Singles Open Wheelchair Tennis tour after beating the second seed of the tournament South Africa Ishmael Tshipuke 6-0, 6-0 at the Bulawayo Athletic Club yesterday.

The Ladies’ Open was won by Rosalea Van Der Merwe who beat fellow South African Celia DuToit 6-1, 6-1.

In the junior’s category another South African Donald Rampadi edged Bulawayo’s Shepherd Banda 6-3, 6-0.

South Africa-based Mharakurwa beat Bulawayo’s Samson Muroyiwa in the semi-finals while Tshipuke proceeded to the final after South African Selepi fell ill on Wednesday.

Mharakurwa beat Rangarirai Chiware of Bulawayo 6-0, 6-0 in the first round and Collin Makwanya of Harare in the quarter-finals with the same scoreline before edging Muroyiwa.

Tshipuke beat Moses Chitombo of Masvingo 6-1, 6-0 in the first round and thumped Harare’s Harry Mavengano 6-0, 6-0 in the quarter-finals before the easy walk to the final.

DuToit beat Nyarai Nechiturike of Harare 6-1, 6-0 while Van der Merwe also sailed into the final after beating Dorcas Hwatira also of Harare with the same scoreline.
