A 23rd minute flick header by in-form Highlanders midfilder Louis Matawu denied an unstoppable FC Platinum the chance to reclaim top spot in a tension-filled match at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday.

It was Rahman Kutsanzira who dribbled past Menard Mupera on the flank before flighting a cross which was cleared for a corner by Daniel Vheremu.

Lawson Nkomo then took the corner-kick, which flew straight to Matawu whose header caught FC Platinum goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube off-guard sending the multitudes of Bosso fans who braved the chilly weather into celebration.

Bosso catapulted back to third position on the log standings.

Mkhupali Masuku was elated with his boys’ composed performance but FC Platinum coach Rahman Gumbo disappeared into the dressing room after the match.

“We did want we wanted to do and played according to plan, and that was not to give much space and be on the offensive. We are used to playing in small fields. I am happy with the performance of the boys especially in the second half when we played against the wind.”

FC Platinum could have gone into the lead as early as the ninth minute after William Manondo dribbled past Bruce Tshuma on the left flank and set up an unmarked Mupera, who failed to pack a short in the box with only goalie Ariel Sibanda to beat.

Highlanders piled more pressure in midfield with Matawu and Eric Mudzingwa and Kutsanzira slicing the FC Platinum defence. Vincent Nzombe and Graham Ncube were unlucky not to find the nets.

Gumbo rested Donald Ngoma and Benjamin Marere and introduced the pair of Manondo and Mupera in the second half. Marere and Ngoma tormented the Bosso defence.
