The Zimbabwe National Youth Games kicked off with netball and athletics being some of the major highlights in Gwanda yesterday.

In the first 100m heat Tinashe Mutanga from Harare came first at a time of 11,22secs. Midlands was second with Daniel Muzavazi clocking 11,34secs.

Likhwa Nyathi of Bulawayo came third after 11,56sec recording the same time as Busani Sibanda of Matabeleland South.

In heat two of the 100m event in the boys’ section Carry Chivandani of Manicaland was first crossing the line at a time of 11,22secs while hosts Matabeleland South had their athlete Qondani Chuma coming second on 11,72secs while Talent Mungiyo of Midlands was third clocking 11,80secs. The fourth-placed athlete was Enock Mungiyo at a time of 11, 91 seconds.

In heat three of the boys 100m event Farai Masawi of Manicaland came first recording a time of 11,06secs followed by Kenneth Chibwano from Bulawayo in 11,10secs.

Third was Milosy Blessing from Matabeleland South who recorded time of 12,26secs. Litson Dhlomo of Midlands was third getting a time of 12,35secs.

In the girls section Siphankosi Nkomo of Matabeleland South came first recording a time of 12,90secs while Progress Gadziko from Harare was second in 13,01secs.

Loveny Tailor from Bulawayo and Meranda Mandabva were third and fourth placed respectively. Tailor crossed the line at 13,03secs while Mandabva managed 13,75secs.
