Leonard Zhakata has decided to celebrate the success of his latest album Gotwe (Last Born) through a family show at Harare gardens today.

It seems the musician would want some divine touch at the event because he has roped in gospel diva Mercy Mutsvene who will also perform at the show.

Despite having to battle with ravaging piracy, Zhakata has made record sales at Metro Studios, which is distributing the album. The show, which will take place in the afternoon, is a mixture of genres since it will also see Tryson Chimbetu and Stunner having their slots. It will be a compression of gospel, sungura and urban grooves.

One of the show organisers said Zhakata, would stage the family show as a way of thanking his fans for their support as well as celebrating the success of the album.

“He is very happy with the response that his album has received. The album came as a relief after three years without a new product and he is celebrating that achievement with his fellow musicians and fans. We are glad to be part of the celebrations and we hope the show will live up to its billing,” said the organiser.

Zhakata rarely stages family shows and bringing such an event to a central venue should be a way of trying to bring his fans from across Harare to one celebratory event.

The new album is receiving rave reviews and making waves in public entertainment places. The musician went for three years without releasing an album because of a contractual wrangle with his former record company.
