BULAWAYO – Popular South African house music disc jockey, DJ Fresh, is set to perform at Bar Labhala this evening.

Fresh — real name Thato Sikwane — is a veteran sought-after international DJ.

Babongile Sikhonjwa Bar Labhala director told NewsDay that Fresh is coming to perform at the club launch for free.

“He is my personal friend. When I told him that I would be launching a new club, he said he would come and lend me support through performing for free. He has not been hired,” said the musician.

“He actually cancelled his trip to Kenya where he had been scheduled to stage a performance on Saturday evening (today).”

Sikhonjwa’s friendship with DJ Fresh, a presenter on South Africa’s 5FM radio station, dates back to the turn of the century when the club known as Visions then, used to host him. Sikhonjwa would organise the shows.

DJ Fresh has not played in the city for the past three years.

“The last time he played here, he was still with youthful radio station YFM,” said Sikhonjwa, who is also a socialite in the city.

“I promise everybody who will come to the show that I will not disappoint. In fact, I have never given music fans a false promise,” he said. The Ballers’ League disc jockeys will provide the opening act before Fresh, who is known for his good remixes, takes over.
