Manicaland havegil’jgu stepped up preparations and was ready for the National Youth games to be staged in Gwanda from August 14 to 21.

General manager for Zimbabwe Youth Games Manicaland Job Torindoh confirmed the team had made great headway in preparing for the games after a week’s camp outside Mutare.

“The boys and girls started camping last week Friday and I believe they are now ready to take the province to greater heights. We chose the outskirts of Mutare so that they could have maximum concentration,” he said.

He added that although they were aiming high, the major purpose of the games was to select competitive players into various national youth teams to represent the country.

“Since we came fourth last year, we will be aiming higher this, but the focus will be to select a good team which will represent the country in such games as the Zone VI games,” he said.

Manicaland is sending 250 athletics to the games that begin in Gwanda, the Matabeleland South capital, on Sunday.
