New Orleans retained the LM Auctioneers knockout cup when they beat visiting Botswana women’s football side Double Action 3-2 on penalties at Luveve Stadium on Sunday.

Double Action were the first to go ahead after two minutes into the game through Bonang Otihagile. Thuto Ramafifi laid the ball for Otihagile who outpaced the New Orleans defence to slot home the first goal of the afternoon.

New Orleans found the equaliser three minutes later when Maria Mbewe equalised as she capitalised after Tonderai Masango’s shot was blocked by Kgomotso Molefe. Mbewe capitalised on the rebound to beat Peggy Sekogo in goal for Double Action.

Esther Kazondunge and Amokelang Moahi scored the penalty kicks for Double Action while Thuto Ramafifi missed the target. Thuto Lesaane had her spot kick saved by Portia Mukucha while Neo Masimola blasted her effort over the bar.

New Orleans’ Maggie Moyo, Mbewe, and Precious Matsika converted while Sicelo Dube blasted the ball over the bar.

Acting coach Fungai Nyamutuku commended the girls for their good performance.

“The game was hectic, but I am happy because the girls played according to instructions resulting in our victory. I am also happy because we fielded juniors as some of the players are in Germany, but I am quite happy with their performance and the results,” she said.
