Underfire African Sun Group chief executive Shingi Munyeza said he was not axed from the Dawn Properties board, but left on his own volition.

Media reports at the weekend said the move to axe Munyeza followed his efforts to boot out Dawn Properties chairperson Tendayi Chimuriwo.

Munyeza yesterday said his axing from Dawn Properties board was speculation and “the media should go ahead and write whatever they want to”.

“Which company is doing well in this country? The factual thing is I resigned from the board. I don’t know how to answer these questions. Your questions are H-Metro-type questions,” said Munyeza after inquiries by NewsDay yesterday of what had really transpired.

The local media said Munyeza’s ouster was as a result of strained relationship with other board members at the property company following the “illegal” registration of a bond over Crowne Plaza with South Africa’s Industrial Development Corporation in return for a $11 million for refurbishments.

The hotel group leases a number of properties from Dawn including the Crowne Plaza Monomotapa and Elephant Hills Resort and Conference Centre.
