The four best winners in the 2011 Mr Iron Man contest to be held at Ochi City Leisure Centre on Saturday will represent the nation in the Musclemania Africa in Uganda on September 10, an official has revealed.

Matabeleland Bodybuilding and Fitness Association vice-chairman Tendai Chaipa, who runs Body Active Gym in Bulawayo, yesterday confirmed the Harare competition which is being organised by the Mashonaland Bodybuilding and Fitness Association.

Chaipa said the best four winners on the day would be travelling to East Africa next month. Chaipa said this year’s national contest was the first of its kind after two years and is being bankrolled to the tune of $30 000 with additional prizes such as motor vehicles and residential stands.

Three bodybuilders from Bulawayo’s Body Active Gym, Ntokozo Mahlangu, Michael Alimu (seniors) and a junior, Washington Lunga, will be taking part in this year’s Mr Iron Man which will also attract participants from Botswana.

Mahlangu, who won the Mr Matabeleland at Barbaton Gym last Saturday, is the reigning Mr Body Active and he came second in the 2011 Mr ZITF, which was won by Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga from Gweru.

Mahlangu said he was raring to go for the Mr Iron Man contest.

“I hope to do well in Mr Iron Man. Mr Matabeleland was part of the preparations for this one and I’m happy I won. I am training by myself, six days a week and three hours a day,” Mahlangu said.

He paid tribute to Chaipa for the training services at Body Active. Chaipa is also travelling to Harare as a Matabeleland official and will be a judge on Saturday.

He said the Bulawayo bodybuilders were appealing for sponsorship in the form of transport and food as Mashonaland Bodybuilding and Fitness Association was believed to be offering accommodation for the participants.

Among the competitors are Zumailer Maman and Spencer Baudi from Harare. Pre-judging will be done at Raylton Sports Club.
