Acting President, Joice Mujuru yesterday appealed for calm, urging people within and outside Zanu PF to stop speculation following the gruesome death of her husband, General Solomon Mujuru, in a mysterious fire at his Alamein Farm in Beatrice.
She was speaking after the Zanu PF Politburo accorded the late General Mujuru national hero status and announced he will be buried on Saturday.
Mujuru said now was not the right time to speculate, arguing she was leaving everything to God.
“I appeal to you to avoid too much history and talking bad things and listen to good things,” the Acting President said.
“It makes us not to comment on what will make us unable to stand up to tomorrow.
“We agreed with Solomon every time that even if we hear anything coming from anywhere, we won’t comment whether it’s a lie or not. Only one person will comment, good or bad.”
Emotions have been running high since Mujuru’s tragic death, a key figure in Zimbabwe’s succession battle.
Yesterday, Zanu PF youths marched into the Mujuru homestead chanting party slogans and singing, demanding an explanation over his death. Hundreds of youths chanting slogans and singing revolutionary songs demanded to know why “you burnt the leader of the liberation struggle?”.

Zanu PF Harare provincial chairman Jim Kunaka, who led the youths said: “We didn’t expect such a death for our General. As youths we want to get to the bottom of it and find out whether it was a normal death, whether it was a normal electrical fault or it was the work of enemies.”
