KWEKWE — The embattled Kwekwe City Council former treasurer, Albert Zingwe, has been fired after a unanimous decision by the Local Government Board (LGB) following recommendations by the local authority.
The board met on July 29 and endorsed a Kwekwe City Council resolution to fire Zingwe over allegations of theft, fraud and insubordination.
Zingwe was suspended from work on December 1 last year and appeared before a three-member probe team led by Kwekwe provincial magistrate Tendai Mahwe. The team found him guilty on seven out of the nine charges levelled against him by the local authority.
In a letter to town clerk Emannuel Musara, the board said it had unanimously agreed that there were sufficient grounds to dismiss Zingwe from date of suspension from council employ.
“Please be advised that the board sat on 29 July to consider your application to dismiss Albert Zingwe from his position of director of finance for the City of Kwekwe. After considering the findings of the disciplinary authority, the board unanimously concurred with council through LGB resolution 23/2011 that there were sufficient grounds for Zingwe’s dismissal.
But, Zingwe yesterday vowed he would refer the matter to the Labour Court, claiming he was unfairly dismissed.
“I will be sitting down with my legal counsel to map a way forward, this is obviously not the end of this matter,” said Zingwe.
