Jamal Nyika Mataure who rose to fame in 2003 through hit song Kurwizi that features Betty Makaya, has made a comeback with a new album.
The 14-track album was produced by Tshoyw, a Mozambican producer and has a fusion of Afro-jazz, passada and R&B.
Mataure, who is now based in Mozambique, said he was hoping to release the album next week.
“I am hoping that the album will be out next week and my fans should gear up for new sounds, something they’ve never heard before. It’s not the usual urban grooves,” said Jamal.
He added that some of the tracks on the album tackled HIV and Aids issues and people’s lifestyles in general.
Songs on the album are Pabonde, Mwana Wechikoro, Dzinomwa MunaZambezi, Jesu Akati Apinda, Baba Tava Kunorara, Mira Padoko, Menina and Iwe.
Zelma Fontes, who had a big role on Dino Mudondo’s hit track, Ndichakumirira features on the album. Leonard Mapfumo also had a hand on the album.
Jamal said he was hoping to reunite with Makaya and record a track with her in South Africa where she is now based.

He explained his silence saying it was because of the previous company he had signed a contract with.
“The contract I signed with Tonderai Music did not permit me to record with another company for 7 years. I have been waiting for the seven years to end,” said Jamal.
This is his second album after releasing a 10-track album titled Ghetto in 2003. Jamal reckons he was overshadowed by Makaya on the song Kurwizi.
“I was really overshadowed by Betty when we did the Kurwizi track. Most people thought I had featured on her track and they went on to purchase her album hoping to find that song,” he said.
