Reigning Miss Teen Zimbabwe Clarah Matenga is set to leave for the United States tomorrow to represent the country at Miss Teen World finals.

The pageant will see the Zimbabwean teen beauty squaring up with more than 100 other teen models from around the world for the coveted title.

In an interview with NewsDay, Matenga said she is ready to take the international catwalk scene by storm when she graces the world contest scheduled for August 1 at Hilton Hotel in Houston City, Texas.

“I am excited and humbled to be representing my country on an international platform and I will definitely do my best to bring the crown home”, said Matenga.

The 19-year-old model will be accompanied by her mother to the international pageant.

“I am so happy that my mother is travelling with me. It is always motivating to see your parents supporting you in pursuing your passion.”

Matenga shrugged off stiff competition from other 24 models at the Miss Teen Zimbabwe finals held two months ago at 7 Arts in Avondale to land the coveted title.

For qualifying to the Miss Teen World final, Clara won a three-year tuition scholarship at Barclay College in America.

“I am a model but my priority is to first pursue my education and I am set to leave next year for the US college I am going to study for a degree in Psychology,” she said.

Renowned local designer Joyce Chimanye will provide some of the attire for the teenager at the world pageant.

Lately, Matenga has been taking grooming lessons, going to the gym and having other facial uplifts in preparation for the contest.

She has also been taking public speaking lessons to spruce up her speech presentation and boost her confidence on stage, since she is scheduled to make presentations about the importance of birth records among many activities lined-up for her during camp.

“I will also use the platform to market Zimbabwe and with help from my mother, I will take with me fascinating artifacts from the country to showcase at the pageant.

“I promise to deliver my best,” she added.
