Two soldiers and a police officer were on Friday arraigned before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court on robbery charges involving $1 020.

The three, Hawulethu Tshuma (26), Llyod Saurombe (33) and Justice Gudo (24) were remanded out of custody to August 17 on $50 bail each after they appeared before magistrate Febian Feshete.

Prosecutor Lloyd Kurehwatira said on July 19 at about 10pm, the suspects who were on routine patrol, approached Charles Gonzo at Zengeni Business Centre in Marange.

The court heard Gonzo was playing a game of cards with friends in a room when the three entered and ordered everyone to sit down.

The court heard that Gonzo failed to comply with the orders, thereby raising the ire of the uniformed men who assaulted him with belts before robbing him of his money.

The three later allegedly fled the scene, but were arrested after Gonzo made a police report.
