Masvingo’s unbeaten home record came to a screeching halt when they fell resoundingly to defending champions Motor Action in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Mucheke Stadium yesterday.

The win enabled the Mighty Bulls to cut FC Platinum’s lead to two points with 34 points when Rahman Gumbo’s team cruised to their 11th win of the season after beating Kiglon 2-1 on Saturday.

Dynamos remained third after their 2-1 win over Caps United while Highlanders also maintained fourth place with a 1-0 victory over Hwange at the Colliery.

Fielding a new team of players recruited from Division One, Masvingo were a goal behind after 36 minutes when Allan Gahadzikwa scrambled home from a goalmouth mêlée which the hosts could easily have dealt with.

It was 2-0 for the champions in the 58th minute when a free-kick by Gift Phiri was deflected into the nets before Gahadzikwa completed his double in the 62nd minute. Masvingo got their consolation in the 79th minute through Given Chirere.

Masvingo coach Luke Masomere said after the match: “This is a new team, we are starting from scratch, but things will work out soon,” Team owner Petros Mutema left the stadium before the match ended after fans had started showing their displeasure at the way the match was going.
