Chapungu woke from their slumber to end a five-game winless streak when they edged relegation threatened FC Glow Petroleum 2-1 in a Zifa Central Region Division One football league match played at Rutendo Stadium on Saturday.

Firebrand striker Brighton Mugoni notched his 11th goal of the season before Philip Marufu weighed in with another strike to earn the airmen three points.

They remained at fourth spot, but the victory afforded them to cut the gap to seven points on leaders Hardbody who have 37 points.

Tongogara and Tripple B who were inactive just like Hardbody remained at position two and three respectively.

However, Chapungu are yet to prove their mettle this season as they have failed to claim victory on highly-placed teams.

But Saturday’s win could be a step towards reviving waning fortunes for the airmen who went for the whole month of June without winning.

Gweru Pirates pulled off a shocker at Mkoba Stadium when they condemned visiting McInn to a 2-0 loss. McInn, who are slowly losing their challenge after a bright start to the season, slipped one place down to sixth spot.

At Torwood Stadium, Ziscosteel emerged the steely side with a slender 1-0 win over Lancashire Steel but both sides’ positions remain unchanged on position nine and ten respectively.

After winning three matches on the spin, ZimAlloys were on Sunday held 1-1 by Chrome Stars at Chrome Stadium to swap places with McInn as they settled on fifth spot with 10 points behind leaders Hardbody.
