Josephine Dube, one of the two Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) employees facing charges of sending pornographic material to several unsuspecting Internet surfers using their office computers, has denied the charge and, instead accused her employer of fixing her for being a worker’s representative.

Initially, Dube was being jointly charged with Brighton Matingo, but their trial was ordered to run separately.

Dube’s trial started on Tuesday last week. She is being represented by Ralph Maganga of Harare.

The two are being charged with contravening section 26 (1) (b) of the Censorship and Entertainment Act, Chapter 10.04 (possession of prohibited articles). They are both out of custody on $100 bail coupled with stringent reporting conditions.

Charges against the pair are that in October last year, Zimra’s information technology department discovered their computer system was being overloaded, a factor which affected service delivery.

A probe was carried out where it was allegedly discovered the pair had been using the utility system to send pornographic mails to various people over an eight-month period.

The material was taken to the Censorship Board under BC4/56, which confirmed the material was indecent, obscene, offensive and undesirable and should be banned. Dube and Matingo were then arrested.
