Zimbabwe X1 were close to getting a draw from their four-day cricket match against Australia “A” at the Country Club yesterday after closing the day 75 runs behind the tourists with seven wickets in hand.

Hamilton Masakadza and Keegan Meth were unbeaten on 40 and three respectively as the hosts closed on 134/3 in their second innings after 52 overs, chasing Australia’s 439 all out.

The hosts were 230 all out in the first innings, powered to the total by Vusi Sibanda’s 91 and Tino Mawoyo’s 39 after the pair put 117 for the first wicket before being let down by Keegan Meth, Elton Chigumbura, Tendai Chatara and Njabulo Ncube who all came out with zero.

Australia “A”s huge total came off Phillip Hughes’ massive 125 while Tim Paine (98), Callum Ferguson (56) and David Warner (48) ensured Zimbabwe have a massive job ahead of the last day today.
