Judgment in the case in which a 43-year-old male teacher in Filabusi is accused of soliciting sexual favours from a Grade 5 pupil will be delivered next Monday.

The teacher, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the pupil, denied the charge when he appeared before Filabusi magistrate Shillah Nazombe at the close of submissions on Monday.

He is on $100 bail. The court heard that on June 30 this year at 4pm, the teacher allegedly invited the female pupil to a country club in Filabusi on the pretext that he wanted to give her crayons.

The girl and her classmate allegedly obliged and accompanied the teacher to the country club. Along the way the teacher is said to have ordered the other girl to go home so that he could remain with his alleged victim.

On arrival at the country club, the teacher allegedly sat on a bench and ordered the girl to remove her clothes so that they could be intimate, but the girl refused.

He further asked her to sit on his lap which the girl also refused before running away.

The teacher allegedly asked her not to tell anyone about what had happened, but the girl proceeded to report the abuse to the school deputy headgirl.

The two informed one of the teachers and the matter was reported to the police. The teacher was arrested on July 2. Jetro Mada represented the State.
