A police outrider believed to be part of an unidentified motorcade was involved in a freak accident near Borrowdale Racecourse in Harare yesterday after the motorcyclist rammed into a civilian vehicle which was making way for the convoy.

National traffic police spokesperson Tigere Chigome said he was yet to get information on the accident last night.

“I don’t know about the accident. I was not briefed on that particular one. We normally receive reports of fatal accidents. So, the fact that we have not received such a report may mean it was a minor accident,” he said.

He said he had still not received information pertaining the accident by the time of going to print last night.

When NewsDay arrived at the scene, the injured officer was receiving treatment in a police ambulance while his colleagues recorded a statement from the truck driver.

The damaged motorbike was still at the scene together with the Mazda vehicle into which it had rammed and another Isuzu that was also caught in the pile-up when the news crew arrived.
