Veteran afro-jazz musician Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi serenaded a capacity crowd at the Amphitheatre when he staged a captivating performance on Friday night.

Mtukudzi, who is renowned for polished performances, did not disappoint. He also regularly performs on the international scene.

The massive crowd occasionally danced wildly when Tuku played some of his old hits such as Neria, Todii, Tibvumbamireyi, Right Direction, Chido Chenyu Here, Tozeza among others, delivering an exciting performance that befitted his status as a veteran musician.

He also took the audience that braved the chilly weather to watch him, down memory lane with some of his old songs such as the sing-along Mbombera.

The Amphitheatre burst into chorus when he played the song, a favourite among the old and young alike.

His backing group, the Black Spirits, did not disappoint either as they showcased some well-choreographed dance routines in tandem with the rhythm, earning themselves a standing ovation.

“I like being in Bulawayo,” said Mtukudzi on stage while taking a short breather and the audience responded with shouts of approval.

There were no major incidents during the show as has happened when foreign musicians perform, for Tuku has perfected his act with time.

Bulawayo dance group Iyasa demonstrated why they are rated among the best when they opened the show with scintillating dance routines.
