Defending Wimbledon mixed doubles champions Cara Black of Zimbabwe and her Indian playing partner Leander Paes bowed out of the Wimbledon mixed doubles event on Saturday.

The pair suffered a straight set defeat in the quarter-finals against Daniel Nestor and Yung-Jan Chan in London.

The 14th seed Indo-Zimbabwean pair lost 3-6, 2-6 to the eighth seed Canadian-Taipei combination.

The eighth seeds were clearly the better players on the day, making just one unforced error and serving much better than Paes and Black.

Nestor and Chan also converted five of the nine break opportunities they received and that turned out to be the telling difference as the 14th seeds managed to get just four break points.

Saturday’s defeat ended Black’s disappointing campaign at this year’s Wimbledon on her return from injury after she and her Israelipartner Shahar Peer were knocked out of the women’s doubles competition following a titanic encounter on Tuesday last week.

Black is Zimbabwe’s most decorated female tennis player but persistent injuries have recently taken their toll on the 32-year-old veteran who has as won all four Grand Slam mixed doubles titles and three of the four Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles.

She is currently ranked World No 28 in women’s doubles.
