Finance Minister Tendai Biti, currently under threat from war veterans and Zanu PF apparatchiks over civil servants salaries, on Wednesday night fumed accusing the former ruling party of cheap politicking at the expense of the nation.

Biti, who was speaking for the first time since he was forced to flee to safety after war veterans besieged his office on Monday, said Zanu PF was making populist statements yet they knew the situation on the ground.

“The first disease in this country is politics of discord, lack of love and resurgence of violence to gain political votes. What is killing us is violence yet dialogue is the only solution. There is discord in the inclusive government,” he said.

We have six million people on the voters’ roll with four million dead people. All these dead people vote on elections and if we start afresh, ghosts will not register to vote.”

The minister added there was no way Zimbabwe could get money to increase the government wage bill because the country was at a crossroads and had lost international partners due to the prevailing political crisis and tensions besetting in the inclusive government.

He reiterated Treasury had no money for a pay rise.
