After a year’s journey around the United Kingdom to find the “rough diamonds” who can square up for the crown in the Miss Zimbabwe Diamond pageant, the semi-final of the event will be held in London next month.

This event comes after Miss Zimbabwe Diamond toured various parts of the UK in search of different girls from different cultures, classes, races and tribes, sharing in common the passion of flying the Zimbabwean flag and promoting the beauty and talent the country has to offer.

“The roadshows have been to the South, Midlands and as far as North England and Scotland and during the semi-final event only 15 young ladies will be chosen to compete in the finals in September,” said the Miss Zimbabwe Diamond marketing director Mike Tashaya.

Tashaya said 30 girls had been selected to compete in the semi-final from across the UK. The girls originate from various parts of Zimbabwe including Harare, Bulawayo, Masvingo, Mutare, Bindura, Chipinge and Hwange among others.

He said the emphasis of the semi-final would be for the girls to market various tourist destinations and cultural practices.

He said there were many tourist destinations in Zimbabwe that needed to be exposed to the people in the Diaspora.

“It has been an incredible journey with so much passion and amazing talent,” said the Miss Zimbabwe Diamond founder Glorianne Francis.

Tashaya said their vision was for the girls to shine the spotlight on Zimbabwe, tell their stories to the world and inspire one another.

“The girls will all wear Classic Chic attire sponsored by Adel Kaseke of Curvy Swan who recently launched her trade mark label and there will also be an African design category sponsored by various talented Zimbabwean designers,” he said.

He said the pageant aimed to bring back the pride to Zimbabwe as a force to reckon with within the fashion and entertainment industries.

“It appeals to the modern youth as well as the older generation who seek to express themselves through fashion and entertainment. The pageant is sponsored by Econet and has been endorsed by Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and many Zimbabwean celebrities,” said Tashaya.
