Sables’ manager Noddy Kanyangarara says there will be no room for complacency when the national rugby team takes on the Uganda Cranes in the tri-nations Victoria Cup match at Hartsfield on Saturday.

Kanyangarara said despite the fact that the Ugandans were arriving in Bulawayo tonight for the game, the Sables would be giving their best shot in front of the multitude of rugby fans in the City of Kings and Queens.

“We are not going to be complacent because the Ugandans will be arriving here tomorrow evening (Friday night) and will probably be tired,” Kanyangarara said.

The Sables manager allayed fears of casualties in the camp saying they had recorded a clean bill of health during their training sessions at Falcon College in Esigodini.

He said Cleopas Makotose, who coach Brendon Dawson had said was on injury, was fit and raring to go for tomorrow’s clash.

“Everyone is fine. We have recorded a clean bill of health. When we went to Kampala, Cleopas sustained an injury on his quadriceps, but we have been looking at that and he is on the go on Saturday (tomorrow),” Kanyangarara said.

Kanyangarara urged the Bulawayo rugby fans to troop to Hartsfield in their hordes and rally behind the Sables, who are on the verge of snatching the Victoria Cup from holders Kenya.

The Sables last week beat Kenya 42-24 at Harare Sports Club in another Victoria Cup after beating the Cranes 25-15 a fortnight ago in Uganda in the same tournament.

The Zimbabwe rugby national team leads the three-team log with nine points from two matches, having beaten both Kenya and Uganda.

The Sables’ squad that trained at Falcon includes Gardner Nechironga, Jacques Leitao, Daniel Robertson, Charles Jiji, Njabulo Ndlovu, Makotose, Tichafara Makwanya, Dylan Bradshow and Lloyd Muchanjaira.

The Sables’ final squad was due to be announced late on Thursday afternoon after training to Hartsfield.

Meanwhile, reports from Uganda say the Cranes are coming into Zimbabwe a depleted side due to injuries.

The Uganda Cranes will be without captain Mathias Ochwo who sustained a rib injury in the final game of the Africa Cup 1B tournament against Madagascar two weeks ago.

His deputy Timothy Mudoola will also not be available for Saturday’s match. Winger Jude Keremendu is reportedly out due to a thumb injury while Tony Luggya, Robert Seguya and Simon Wakabi will not be available for work-related reasons.
