A Kwekwe business executive, who indecently assaulted his daughter, has been slapped with a 36-month jail sentence.

The man was found guilty on two counts of indecent assault after he kissed and fondled his 15-year-old daughter’s breasts in August last year.

In December, he again invited her to his bedroom, pushed her to the bed and again kissed and fondled the girl. The man had pleaded not guilty. The defence alleged the girl had hatched a plan with her mother to fix the father.

The girl then fled home and went to her mother who has since separated from the father.

The mother initially attempted to play down the case, but the girl’s class teacher brought it to light, leading to the man’s arrest.

In passing sentence, the magistrate said the State should have charged the man with attempted rape as cases of child abuse were on the increase. The defence had argued the 65-year-old man had only shown fatherly love to the girl who had never been with him for 15 years.

The man was sentenced 12 months on the first count and 24 months on the second before the magistrate suspended six months for five years on condition of good behaviour.
