Nkulumane High School won the second edition of the Milton Invitational Basketball tournament after a tight contest at Milton High School on Saturday.

The Nkulumane girls walked away with a shield for emerging as the best school.

Nkulumane were tied with Founders and Northlea in first position but they emerged as the overall winners because of the best goal average of 1, 0556 while Founders had a goal average of 0, 9833. Northlea came third with a goal average of 0, 9677.

The round robin tournament saw Nkulumane losing their first game to Northlea 34-23.

Nkulumane came back a better side in the second game as they beat Ihlathi 25-22 while St James fell 37-25 to Nkulumane.

In their next game, they beat Eveline 34-14 before finishing off with a 34-20 victory over Founders. Founders started off their campaign on a good note when they beat Montrose 29-27 before they narrowly beat St James 22-20.

Founders beat Northlea 39-26 before they lost their last game 34-20 to Nkulumane In their first game Northlea beat Nkulumane 34-23, then edged Ihlathi 29-25 before thumping Eveline High School 39-9 in another game. They lost 39-26 to Founders in their last game.

The tournament, which was sponsored by Milton, saw the runners-up walking away with Milton T-shirts.

Outstanding players who include Bridgette Gumbo and Loreen Muyemwa (Founders), Sekai Ncube and Shannez Siziba (Montrose), Margaret Kwangwari (Eveline) and Valerie Zulu (Ihlathi) were called up to the Under-16 Bulawayo provincial side.
