Chris Brown has a leading six nominations heading into Sunday’s 2011 BET Awards ceremony, while Lil Wayne has five and Kanye West, Rihanna and Drake all have four.

Brown is nominated for best male R&B artist, video of the year, best actor, viewer’s choice and twice for best collaboration.

Ironically, Brown will compete in the collaboration category against ex-girlfriend Rihanna, whom Brown admitted assaulting after a pre-Grammy Award party in Los Angeles in 2009.

Also nominated for male R&B artist are Cee Lo Green, Bruno Mars, Trey Songz and Usher. Tabbed for best female R&B artist are Marsha Ambrosius, Beyonce, Keri Hilson, Jennifer Hudson and Rihanna.

Among the nominees for best group is the Inglewood-based Cali Swag District, which was rocked in May by the shooting to death of one its members, M-Bone, in front of an Inglewood liquor store.

The band, famed for its hit Teach Me How to Dougie, is nominated in the category with Diddy-Dirty Money, N.E.R.D., New Boyz and Travis Porter.

The BET Awards ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium will be hosted by actor/comedian Kevin Hart, who appeared in Little Fockers, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Death at a Funeral.

Chris Brown is also expected to perform at the ceremony, along with Lil Wayne, Drake, Jill Scott and Alicia Keys.
