MDC-N MP for Insiza South, Siyabonga Ncube, who was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly infecting a Bulawayo female journalist with HIV and insulting her in a text message, was Wednesday released on summons to appear in court today (Thursday).

Ncube was summoned at 4pm Wednesday after spending the whole day at court when the prosecution was still deciding his fate and will be appearing in court on the charge of sending offensive messages to the scribe.

On the other count of infecting her with HIV, the State is said to be still consulting on the allegations and will decide whether to prosecute him or not as the matter was said to be riddled with a lot of loopholes which however NewsDay could not establish by Wednesday.

Ncube was released after spending a night in cells at Bulawayo Central Police Station where he was locked up on Tuesday afternoon.

Ncube’s lawyer, Mlweliwenkululeko Ncube, confirmed the developments in an interview at Tredgold Building which houses the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Courts, where he had accompanied his client.

“The State has summoned my client to appear in court tomorrow (today) for sending offensive messages to the complainant. However, on the other count of infecting her with HIV, the prosecution is still to decide as the matter is full of loopholes,” said Ncube without explaining the nature of loopholes.

Last Friday, the journalist reported the MP for allegedly infecting her with HIV during a two-year love affair.

The journalist also reported that the politician insulted her over the phone after she disclosed to him that she had tested HIV-positive.

She said she was certain Ncube had infected her with HIV since she tested negative in October 2009 after they began dating in August of the same year.

The two had been having an intimate relationship before splitting up on July 31 last year after she discovered that he was cheating on her with a nurse at Ingutsheni Hospital.

The woman also alleged that the MP had been accusing her of being an agent of the Central Intelligence Organisation, saying she was working with the espionage agency to fix him and drag his name into the mud so that he would lose his seat come election time.
