Home Affairs co-minister Theresa Makone has accused the Registrar- General’s Office of refusing her access to the voters’ roll.
Makone said the voters’ roll was in shambles. She said she was now pushing for an electronic copy which she said should be made available for inspection by Zimbabweans.
“I have asked for a voters’ roll several times but I have not managed to get it. Why are they hiding it from me? It’s in shambles and very questionable,” Makone said.
Speaking at an MDC-T rally in Gweru at the weekend, Makone who is the MDC-T women assembly chairperson, said women were tired of violence, unending summits on Zimbabwe and propaganda.
She said: “We are tired of summit after summit on Zimbabwe and as women we are tired of violence and failure by leaders to implement the Global Political Agreement. We are tired of politicised military and militarised villages and we are tired of villagised military.”
Registrar-General Tobaiwa Mudede recently dismissed reports alleging discrepancies in the country’s voters’ roll.
He challenged those making such claims to come forward and assist his office in addressing anomalies like under-age children who were alleged to be registered as voters.
“If there are such people who do exist on our voter’s roll, I urge those with evidence to come forward and assist us. Our computer database would never take in under-age voters as they are programmed to reject such discrepancies,” he said.
