Veteran former Dynamos striker Clive Mwale struck as Highfield United’s transformation in the Zifa Northern Region Division One league continued after they beat visiting ZPC Kariba 2-0 at Gwanzura on Sunday.

Mwale and Terrance Gonzo’s strikes made sure that the Twalumba Holdings-sponsored team chalk-up a third win in a row.

The result saw the flamboyant side gate crashing into the top eight as they are now tied with BACA and DC Academy on seventh position with 14 points.

The three teams have the same goal difference of +2 after 11 rounds of games having been played so far.

Highfield technical manager Wilson Mutekede conceded his team had a slow start to the season but said the recent upsurge in form should not come as a surprise though.

“For us it was a very normal process that is expected in football. We are still building a team, you don’t plant a tree today and expect to get the fruits tomorrow, it’s a long process one should follow,” said Mutekede.

“We added two experienced players into the squad in Clive Mwale and Richard Mteki and that has stabilised the team. We are trying to blend youth and experience so we can come up with a strong team.”

Mwana Africa still lead the log with 24 points, despite losing to second-placed LaLiga 2-1 in the top-of-the-table clash match that was played at Hellenics on Sunday.

The log leaders enjoy a two goal advantage over the Naison Muchekela-coached LaLiga side who also have accumulated 24 points.

Third-placed Black Rhinos with 20 points so far continue to stutter on the log. The army side, who fell to Mwana Africa, last week could only manage a draw against BACA.

Prior to the Mwana Africa match they had drawn against DC Academy, which means they have collected only two points from their last three matches.

At the bottom of the log, Cossy Rules woes continued this week as they received their ninth defeat of the season.

The struggling side suffered a 3-1 defeat to visiting Eiffel Flats to remain rooted at the basement with four points from 11 matches.

Commando Bullets was beaten 2-0 by DStv to remain second from the bottom with seven points.

Flame Lily moved out of the relegation zone, swapping positions with Karoi United whom they emphatically beat 4-1 on Saturday. Flame Lily are now on 10th place with 13 points while Karoi has 10 points.
