Maritzburg targets Mandaza

-

Maritzburg United have expressed interest in Platinum Stars football striker Terrence “Terror” Mandaza who arrived in Rustenburg with a huge reputation from Botswana but struggled to make any impression in the highly-competitive Absa Premiership.

Zimbabwean Mandaza arrived at Platinum Stars at the start of the season after setting a blistering pace in the Botswana Premier League with Township Rollers having helped them win the league double with an amazing 42 goals in all competitions in a single season.

He had first been scouted by Orlando Pirates and even spent a fortnight in Parktown on trial with Dutchman Ruud Krol running the rule over him. But for some strange reasons, Krol was not immediately bought on his wares and Rollers owner Somerset Gobuiwang approached Platinum Stars who signed the player on the spot.

“Mandaza is a real talent,” said a source, “he has lots of potential and I don’t think he is even aware of his massive potential. The problem with him is that he does not want to work. He is sometimes lazy to knuckle down to hard work and this is his major undoing.

“I have no doubt in my mind that if ‘Terror’ could just get down to some serious work, he could easily win a transfer to Europe. I think with his potential, he would be playing for the Zimbabwe national team right now. But as it is, he is labouring under the shadow of Nyasha Mushekwi and Knowledge Musona.”

But despite his failings, Maritzburg United managing director Farouk Khadodia revealed that if Platinum Stars could come up with a better asking fee, he would be greatly interested in the Zimbabwean marksman.

He was sold to Platinum Stars for R1,2 million and United wanted to sign the player on a loan deal during the January open-window period, but the two parties could not reach an agreement and the proposed deal fell through.

But now Kadodia has expressed renewed interest in the player and hopes to convince his business manager Ryan Harslief to thrash out an agreement, especially because they could lose their leading striker Diyo Sibisi who is targeted by Ajax Cape Town.
