Three Chitungwiza robbers were last week slapped with five-year jail terms each for stealing £300 and a mobile phone from a Chitungwiza man, Titus Kaseke, whom they attacked, fracturing his leg and leaving him unconscious by the roadside.

The three, Success Chiradza (25), Oliver Makufa (22) and Armstrong Bangajena (30) appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Jessy Kufa who suspended one year from each of the sentences, leaving them to serve four years each.

Another suspected member of the gang, Blessing Chirinda, is still at large since August last year when the crime was committed.

Prosecutor Luke Mutupe said Kaseke was waylaid by the gang on the dust road leading to Chigumba Housing Co-operative, in Unit L, on his way home from work at around 9pm.

The matter came to light when Kaseke positively identified the dreadlocked Chiradza who was selling firewood in the neighbourhood.

He alerted the police. Chiradza was arrested and he implicated his co-accused.
