Local gospel singer Donna Chibaya is set to share the stage with acclaimed South African gospel musical group Joyous Celebration at a gospel concert to be held in Gaborone, Botswana, later this year.

Chibaya impressed a Tswana music promoter only identified as Joe, after she performed at a church conference in Gaborone, Botswana, at the end of March this year. This prompted Joe to slot her in for the concert slated for August.

The songstress received rave reviews after her scintillating show in Botswana and her new album became an instant hit in that country as it now dominates the airwaves.

“I am very delighted to be sharing the same stage with Joyous Celebration. It is quite an honour. I had sung my songs Tomorrow About This Time and May It Be Done at a church conference when I was approached by Joe who asked me to be part of a Joyous Celebration concert in August,” said Chibaya.

Joyous Celebration was in Harare early this month where few local gospel artists had the chance to share stage with the group.

Chibaya on Saturday launched her fourth album titled Tomorrow About This Time at a well attended show at Cathedral Hall in Gweru.

The new album features South African gospel musicians Putuma and Buhle who did all the backing vocals. It was recorded in March at Cut’n’Edit Studios in Johannesburg where Rebecca Malope and Lundi also record their music.

Produced by Nigel Nyangombe, the 11-track production will be followed by a video album to be shot in Botswana and Tanzania soon.

Some of the songs that feature in the album are Gonamombe Remafuta, Zvinogoneka, Ndiani, Makanaka and Munoera.

After her debut album Nditangire Pai earned her a Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) nomination in 2005 for the Most Promising Artiste, Chibaya returned to the studio the following year and recorded another hit album Vhura Nzira which got her another Zima nomination for the Best Female Gospel Artist.

The third album It Shall Be Well was released in 2008 before she briefly disappeared from the limelight.
